Fulham are reportedly preparing a £24 million bid for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles, according to The Daily Mail, with Leeds United yet to meet the Saints' valuation.
Leeds have been in talks with Southampton over a deal since June 19, when reports first emerged that the Whites were considering a move for the midfielder. Despite their long-standing interest, negotiations have yet to produce an agreement.
It is understood that Leeds have submitted multiple offers for Charles, all of which have been rejected by Southampton. With Leeds still unable to meet the club's demands, Fulham are now poised to enter the race and test Southampton's resolve with a £24 million proposal.
It remains to be seen whether Leeds will continue their pursuit of Charles or turn their attention to alternative targets. With pre-season only days away, Daniel Farke will be keen to have as many new signings integrated into the squad as possible ahead of the new campaign.
Charles enjoyed an impressive season, making 38 appearances across all competitions while contributing six goals and two assists. At just 22 years old, the Northern Ireland international has already amassed 35 senior caps, underlining his experience despite his age.
Primarily a defensive midfielder, Charles is also capable of operating in defence when required. His versatility and composure on the ball would add valuable depth and competition to Leeds United's midfield as they look to build on last season's successful campaign.
